Split/Quick Boot

Has anyone used the Quick Boot for rear axle boot repair? The type I am referring to is the boot that is split lenthwise and has to be glued together. I have an '85 300SD. One boot is torn, the other is badly cracked. Neither axle makes any noise. If the repair would last 6 months I would be satisfied.
I plan on removing the old boot, cleaning out the grease repacking and seeing what happens.
I tried them on a front wheel drive car 20 years ago and was not too impressed.

Thanks

Ben

I imagine again that you would not be too impressed.
You can order Flexx Boots from Astoria 2000, and there is a Youtube on installing them using a funnell.
Of course, the axle has to be removed from the car. Only takes an hour or so to get both the rear axles removed...

I used one about 25 years ago on a VW Dasher diesel. I had good luck with it. Lasted for the life of the car. Sure saves a lot of labor.
I would think that the quality of the materials and glue should have improved over the years. Cleanliness of the slot and tab is critical to the success of the glue.

Good luck to you. Follow up and let us know how it turns out.

years ago in my dads shop what i found is on the chevy citations that we had in daily.that i could pull an axle, pull the joint completely apart, clean, repack and reinstall axle in under 40 minutes a side.if the boot has been ripped open for any amount of time you need to disassmble the joint to clean all the crap out,or your wasting your time.don't waste your money on the split boot.

When I looked for a Split Boot That would fit Mercedes I never found one. Do you have a maker and part number for one?

apparently there is not a split/quick boot for the 300SD. I have not been able to find one.

Thanks for answering.
At the time I looked I was also in contact with a Seller on Ebay who sold split boots. The Seller checked with his supplier and also could not find one made specific for my 300D.
Also the regular boots that I found were $20 (that did not include the clamps) or more and since I needed 2 per Axel that ment $40+4 clamps per Axel.
I opted for rebuilt Axles at $79 each (the price has gone up since that time) and got a $5 discount from each (ordered separately) for ordering online and picking them up at the local part store. The result was a cost of $74 each and I got a warranty too.

I,ve been looking for axles for my '84 300SD. There aren't any. They are available for the 300D. I'm going to look for info on those Flexx boots.

In my search for axles / boots, I found a place that has split boots.
Don't know if they will fit your car, or if they are any good.

I took a quick look but did not see Mercedes mentioned at all. However, there was some pictorials on how to install the Boot Clamps.
