Newbie from Texas!

Hello, new to the forum! I have been lurking around and learning a lot from you guys. I just picked up an 85 300D off ebay. I purchased the car for $1600. The car is really turning out nice. It has it's fair share of stuff that needs attention, but the body and interior are in great shape.

I have read a lot here and have repaired a lot so far. These repairs include.

Breaking off cap and setting ALDA (mega mega slow off line before)
Turning up the boost. (From 7.5# to 10.5#)
Pulled off wrinkled plastic around all inside door frames.
Fixed air conditioning to where it comes out where it should.
Added 2 cans of R-12 and now 38deg. air!
Replaced radio
Repaired flasher relay
Fixed air cleaner mounts
Replaced air filter and fuel filter
New tires
Replaced broken thermostat

Items that still need addressed:
Brake job.
Cruise control repair.
Fix squeaking suspension
Change engine oil
Adjust Valves
Replace leaking downpipe
Change transmission fluid and filter
Diesel purge

When I won the car off ebay. I flew one way to San Diego....Picked up the car and drove 1600 miles back to Texas!! Flawless operation and about 26 MPG!

No, that was not me. I have been looking at Mercedes Diesels off and on for a while. I started looking for a car to replace my wife's 2007 Mercedes. Her Mercedes is leased and will be going off lease in February. (YEAH!) It was a great car, but right now with the economy the way it is we are downsizing a little!

Anyhow, she has a love for Mercedes that has started since she was a child. She is happy even with the older Diesel Mercedes. To her she says "a Mercedes is a Mercedes"...... I just wanted a Diesel Mercedes.

When I was in high school, I remember taking my dates to the prom, homecoming, and other goodies in my parents "new then" 1979 300SD. I had a fascination with diesels ever since. My dad had an 1981 Totota DIesel truck at the same time as their Mercedes. Eventually the Toyota was passed down to one brother to go to college, then to another to go to college, then my stupid ex-brother in law and then (after about 300,000 miles) it went to me!

I have always loved diesels. I love to start them. Love the way they smell. They are very interesting.

Hopefully this one will indeed turn out to be a good one!

The only thing better than an old Mercedes is an old Mercedes with a story. Your drive from the west coast provides that!
Welcome aboard from another Texan. We'll catch you at a GTG at some point.
Next, though, we will require pics of this car......

you all are right!! My wife has our camera right now. She went on a mission trip to Cambodia with our church and has my camera. When she gets back I will snap away! This car is in unbelievable shape!
Slowly I am getting things repaired that suffered from deferred maintenance.

Another great addition to this story....I was driving back to Houston from San Diego and stopped over in Lordsburg NM for the night. When I woke up the next morning ice was all over the car and the temps were probably in the high teens, low 20's. I thought "here comes the test of the ole girl" put the key in, let the glowplugs do their thing and then the magic happened....started perfectly!!

Welcome! The next things I would do is change the fluids asap and adjust the valves.
