Mild Rant:

I have yet to beat my father in poker... Tonight was no exception. I had a healthy pile of chips, sitting with a pair of aces after the flop with a decent kicker, so I naturally go all in.

My father calls... He has pocket 3s, with a 3 mixed in the flop he beats me with triple 3s.

Thankfully, I get another $10 buy in, triple up in short order, then go all in again before the flop with an Ace 10... My father, of course, calls. (He always calls me, always)

What does he have? An Ace Jack of course...

My dad's friends think he is the luckiest card player on the planet and he is one of the cockiest as well...

I say every time, NEVER AGAIN, but I always get sucked back in...

heart attack grill

Looking at the map of your route on Post#1, too bad you aren`t going through Phoenix, Az.

There is a hamburger joint called the www.heartattackgrill.com .
you haven`t lived untill you have had one of their single, double or tripple by-pass burgers.

Or brought back to life by one of the nurses, I mean waitresses .

Moral of the story is... don't go all in before the flop, don't go all in on your dad, and Don't make an all in unless your hand is showing a GREAT set. not just a pocket pair. all in is a desperate move, and it's obvious your dad knows how to play, he ain't gonna get skeered.

Bah, its called gambling for a reason... If you play conservative like that you either have to get lucky with cards or they'll read you way too easily. My semi-reckless strategy serves me well with everyone, except him, because he always calls. My dad's friend sums it up pretty well... He could give a crap if he loses, he'll just keeping buying more chips until he wins. I will admit that he is a better player than me, though, I'm not that stupid. Those were 2 out of the only 3 times I went all in. Perhaps your right, though... To play with him, I'm going to have to change my ways.

Yep! you have to "PLAY" a player to beat him/her. Your dad is a player. Right now he "PLAYS" you.

Ol' Turbo was the victim of my father and his friends' practical jokes.

The name of the Ski Resort I'm at is Beaver Creek...

Looks like I'll be hitting the road tomorrow morning, since bad snow is predicted Monday from my doorstep to Green River, Utah and will continue for the next few days.

Its snowing buckets right now, and temperatures are supposed to get frigid tomorrow. I'm off to get some anti-gel and perhaps some chains at Walmart.

Why? It should be mid-20s when I travel. I'll avoid the overnight negative temperature lows.

You shouldn't need chains west of Edwards in Colorado or Eastern Utah.
I'm heading south out of Denver on a roadtrip in the am. Weather should be warmer and drier in NM and AZ.
