· 1985 300SLD
· 5 cylinder 3.0 liter Turbo Diesel engine
· 355 diamond blue with light grey MB-Tex
· 2 door 2 seater convertible with removable hard and soft top
· 4 speed automatic transmission
· 4 wheel disc brakes
· Single tank vegetable oil conversion
· 166K miles since new
· This vehicle started its life in Los Angeles, CA as a 380SL. It has remained in California its entire life as a gas powered car up until the summer of 2008. We removed the 3.8 liter V8 and installed a 3.0 OM617 Turbo Diesel Mercedes engine from a 1984 300SD. We also installed a freshly rebuilt automatic transmission. The conversion is very clean and it seems as though the car had rolled out of a Mercedes assembly line. The car has 100% original paint, but unfortunately the right side of the trunk has some clear coat damage. We have opted to not fix any of the damage. We feel we should leave the choice up to the next owner. If you would like the damage fixed, we can arrange to have it done and simply add the cost the price of the car. The car is outfitted with 17” AMG monoblock chrome wheels with new tires. If you would prefer the original 14” bundt wheels with new tires, those can be installed at no extra charge.

And they said the hood wouldn't close if you stuck a OM617 in a R107!

ForcedInduction 12-30-2008 03:36 AM

It won't. Its likely got shorter mounts or mount arms.

Nice, but not $9000 nice.

JackG 12-30-2008 07:52 AM

Nice, But I would vote for a 5 spd:rolleyes:

catmandoo62 12-30-2008 08:32 AM

should have changed the letters to read 300 lsd!

Flounder 12-30-2008 09:07 AM

Yes too much $$$, but you've got to at least give him some points for figuring out how to do it without adding an ugly hood scoop.

Mercedes totally should have built these. If I ever have an SL, I want to make it into an SLD, also. I would have added the turbo diesel badge on the trunk.

Fulcrum525 12-30-2008 10:43 AM

Love the tacked on "D" on that badge. Is it possible to get custom made badges that look original?

UriahT 12-30-2008 10:44 AM

Funny to see a 160mph speedo on a OM617...

winmutt 12-30-2008 11:14 AM

I want.

bgkast 12-30-2008 03:44 PM

I want to build one like it (maybe with a 606) some day. What's with the copper pipe plumbing? Veg Oil?

Yes, the car has a single tank setup. The new owner should rip out once in possession.
