One thing you need that is uber important is the hard hydraulic lines that run from the front of the car to the back, and then up front again.
Hydraulic pump, high pressure line to hard line, struts, hoses from struts to accumulators to valve, valve, linkage, rear sway bar with arm for linkage, reservoir up front and low pressure return hose. [gas line works fine for this]
Quite an undertaking. Would be soooo much better to find a wagon with the SLS already installed. Who knows, the setup on this one might be somewhat less functional yet acceptable....

If the car looks horrifically neglected, then the mechanicals were also horrifically neglected. NO WAY would I buy that wagon - it's a collassal money pit and I can't find any good qualities in it. It's not what you see that's expensive, it's what you don't see. Cripes, that car needs to get crushed.

crush this car?

I've always driven beaters because I'm a poor man who likes a good ride. I have a way of finding the worst looking car in and out that runs and drives like a champ. I don't care what it looks like, heck, everything I own is old and run down !

So this car's only issue that I can see is the modified SLS. It runs and drives great, I guarantee it won't be more of a money pit than any post '85 MB that some people drive around!

I think I'm gonna see how functional the current system is: like I said I drove the car up to speed for a bit around town on a test drive with more weight in the back than I would probably ever have in there......

And to find another 300TD for a little more in better shape.....well.....you don't live in Portland! Around here this things go for mega $$$.....all the people who turned this one down did so for cosmetic reasons.....and maybe the SLS mod too.....

And it comes with dingle balls!

yeah, gonna go do another test/look see in an hour, make an offer.

mark in Portland
