Smile 85 300SD Brakeline Replacement Question

Hello all, I am going to replace the line that runs from the adapter to the distributor in the rear. I got the part from Phil. Does a regular tubing bender work for this? I plan to pick one up tomorrow. My plan is to remove the old one whole if possible and try to bend the new one as close as I can to match. Any tips on this job would be greatly appreciated. jim

A tubing bender works fine on brake line tubing. You can cut the existing line with side cutters if needed to make it easier to remove. Or just leave the old line in place and run the new piece as best you can.

Also, in case you didn't know, brake lines should be double flared.

and

Don't even think about doing any brake line/hose work without the proper flare nut wrenches. (but you probably already know that)

actually, mercedes uses bubble flares- different than double flare. you can buy adapters at most places that allows you to use standard brake line with metric fittings.

also 5mm line is almost the same as 3/16(4.76mm), and end fittings can be interchanged. -IE you can cut it and splice it w/ standard 3/16 stuff + double flares.

great tool-

Thumbs up

Thanks to all of you. My buddys generic bender worked fine. It went very smooth and I bled the brakes and back on the road. Jim
