What a great write up! Going to tackle this in a few minutes. Any words of advise?

Bushing 11 is giving me a WHOLE Lot of trouble. Well not the bushing itself. Its the damn clip. Can't get it in there. Bushing is in the way. Maybe ill try a vise to get the bushing out of the way.

The vertical female part of the linkage must not be slide on the entire way to the horizontal linkage. I have had zero trouble re-installing those clips on a number of different cars.

This is where 11 goes. Do I need to unscrew that piece off so I can work on it or that's not suppose to come off? Its incredibly tight. I cant get the clip on!!!

like i said, make sure the vertical female linkage is full seated on the horizontal shaft, use some grease to help. Also make sure the clip is not damaged and the lip on the rod is free of debris which could not allow it to go on.

I have always found there is about 1 mm of play even with the clip installed, i havent had a bit of trouble with those clips..

This is working from inside the car correct? Not underneath? Its impossible lol

79Mercy 05-22-2011 04:30 PM

Yes i have done it MANY times from inside the car. Trust me its not anywhere near impossible, you just don't have something right. Take some pics of what it looks like when your trying to install clip and i might be able to tell you the problem.

Ok! I finally got it! You're right... it was simple once I used the new one I got from fast lane. I was trying to reuse the old one... the one from fastlane, just slides in. The old one, you have to put it through a hole then slide it in. Bah! Once I assemble this back together, im having a beer or seven!

Thank you 79mercy for your patience!

Glad you figured it out!

Dont forget about the other shifter bushing where the horizontal rod meets the tranny.

101? That's for another day! I've got to do that underneath the car correct?

79Mercy 05-22-2011 04:58 PM

yupp #101. it also have one of those clips that you like.

Yes loosen the 10mm bolt, remove the bolt completely(dont just loosen it), slide off the arm and then you can remove that clip and take the arm out and install the new bushing on your work bench.

Damn those clips! I'll tackle that one next week. Thank so much for your help! Now I'm going to try and figure out why my glow plug light is on. Starting another thread.
