Sunroof is a different size than a 300d, the roofline is lower than a D so I imagine the windshield is smaller (shorter). The interior door handle assembly are slightly different from an 83cd to an 85d. I've been picking parts off of an 85 300D for my 83 CD, and find that most mechanical items work fine- I've had to change some of the electrical connections as some pin sizes are different.

After an axel boot split and I trashed the joint instead of swapping out axels I figured it was easier to simply remove the entire diff/axel set up in the 85. Didnt know at the time that I was going from a 3.07 rear end to a 2.88.....

I like the CD for the large trunk, styling, and the fact that you dont see them every day.

My wife pushed hard for a 4 dr when the boys were smaller/car seated and the CD was the family sled. She tried to get me to sell the CD and go for a 300TD but I kept telling her neither one of us rides in back, the kids are small, and the trunk was huge. When it came time to get HER a car though I pushed for a 300TD (a volvo 240 wagon would have been ok) but no, after seeing how many TD's and Volvos were driven by the locals she had to have a little 2 door hatchback because "I only need it for work".

How do ya do that???????????

really a shame that 240 is heading to the 'yard. it was in great shape. i fyou had space and time, you could buy it back and swap everything into a 300D- then youd have manual windows, a 4 spd, even the manual climate control if you were brave enough. and a beautiful interior.

It seems like the Wagon would be better for nights with out the kids too.

Both sets of grandparents live less than a half hour away and my brother likes spending time with the kids too.

Wow, I didn't realize that the 300CD would cause such a stir regarding kids. I got one and if she wants to take the kid, then we go with the Volvo wagon. This one is for me going to the boy's-nite-out for that short few hours right after the kid goes to bed...ha ha.

When I had my manual 240D, I did get it because I liked the idea of everything being simple, hand cranked windows, manual tranny, no sunroof, and I really liked that car. For the past almost 2 years, nothing went wrong, not one thing !

So am I setting myself up for a totally different situation with the 300CD ?

By the way, the insurance co. wants $700 for the wreck.

FYI I got the 85 300D parts car for 600 via allstate a few years back.

While not a 240, the CD is pretty simple- as is the D. Just more electrics. The old 'get a car with a good body and interior, cause mechanical items can be fixed' holds true.

Its the only car I've had thats been surrounded by German tourists as they had never seen one.
