Thank you all for the help with the questions I have. I hope to have her on the road this week, but that may be wish full due to the current weather outlook for the week.
I noticed that you have removed all of the vacuum lines eminating from the black box control on top of the valve cover and to the valve on the intake manifold, what is the purpose for removing them? Should I be searching the forums for information on this?

Thanks Much.....Doug

More Pics

I have taken some more pics, mainly the engine compartment, the boot, & underside / wheel wells

Here's the engine, it's dirty yet, there looks to be a connector missing from the connection between the air filter and the turbo "U" tube. Am I correct?

Wow, it's really evident how the salty spray wreaks havoc on the metal engine components. It's pretty amazing how nice the rest of the car looks on the outside.

I'd get that missing hose replaced ASAP. I think that's sucking unfiltered air into the turbo at that point! That may be why the crankcase vents are covered with oil as well since there's no positive "vacuum" in the air filter assembly to pull the vapors in.

When you get your hoses and fittings sorted out, you can pull the valve cover, adjust the valves and polish it up nice and pretty like some of the guys have done here.

The U tube looks like it should hook back up to the air cleaner. That is your turbo inlet, so it definitely needs to be hooked up. There are vac diagrams on a sticky on the top, so if you want to leave it stock, that's where to go. There have been several posts on simplifying the vac stuff that you may want to read. heck, you can even ditch the EGR. What color interior did you say it had? If it's quartz, that would be a nice combo.

Yeah, your u-tube is totally disconnected at the airbox. Better fix that first since it means you're sucking unfiltered air into the turbo and engine. Dust and dirt will eat the blades of the turbo and your piston rings / cylinder sleeves pretty quick if that isn't addressed.

Looks like you're also missing the band clamp that goes around the end of the u-tube to secure it to the airbox. Judging by the gap between the end of the tube and the airbox, it isn't pushed all the way on at the turbo end. In fact, I think it may even be installed upside down. There shouldn't be a gap like that.

Obviously MUCH lower.

When I was 8 years old, I thought Benny Hill was hilarious, but after about 2 weeks, people running after one another in a field in stop motion with the same music became boring...

why was that??

because the same alleged 'joke' on the same theme in NOT funny.

You are the one hit wonder of the forum .... Bravo.

Apologies to you Bathcity for the thread hijack, but someone had to put a stop to Jimmy and his evil minions before it got more out of hand.

This is a fantastic forum and there is no better place to post, and no better place to learn about our beloved MBZs.

Getting personal and comparing us to infants? I thought this was going to be a light hearted poking, but you're obviously not a nice person, and are one of those **** that gets too worked up with online forums.

One hit wonder? I think Jimmy is one of the most contributive and nicest members on the forum. Who do you think you are, with only 800 some posts in the last 4 years? You don't even have a Mercedes!

What do you think Mercedesshop is degenerating to? This Forum has transformed into not only a means of technical assistance, but an online community where many of us enjoy spending free time chatting with each other. What you're proposing would degenerate it, sir.

I think we have found Jimmy's Nemesis... Paging Chad!

I suggest you find other pursuits than squelching Jimmy and his "minions". Hate to break it to you, but we're the good guys...

I was thinking somebody may have put steel wheels on it with the bundt lugs which was causing the clunking and locking. I guess the lugs were the problem, but somebody must have gone out of their way to put longer lugs back there.

you go Jimmy

BTW, I bought a set of wheels for mine and when I put them on the lugs felt "funny" when they were tightened. could it be I have incorrect lugs? how do you tell? I went from bundts to my previous wheels to the wheels shown in my sig, was there a change to the lugs between 80's and the 90's wheels?
