Yes, they are supposed to pop up when you are in reverse to help you see where the corners of your car are at.

Not up here. All of them are over 100k miles, but in good condition and mostly working. I was just pointing out that the normal S500 isn't worth much, because they're normally going to have 150,000 miles or more which doesn't sell. At this point the locking pump or HVAC display or ?? has stopped working reliably and the owner has decided to trade/sell it as it's been costing a lot to keep working lately and no longer worth fixing. These cars are on their way to being ghetto-cruisers unless they have exceptionally low miles or are in excellent condition with one-owner documents.

The ebay car is worth $2k. A good engine with those miles maybe $6k. A good engine, under 200k miles, one or two owner with proper documets and maintenance might be closer to $10k but this one is definately in trouble and I'm guessing that the maintenance and documentation on a car that "swills" a quart every 300miles is lacking also.

Parking assist rods were last used in 95. They went the way of the dodo when parktronic became an option. Power memory rear view mirror was also last used in 95. I heard MB did away with it because the motors and gears would break when folks adjusted the mirror manually.

On a 95, the antenna in the left rear fender is only for the cell phone. The radio uses an antenna wired into the rear windshield. Don't expect the antenna to raise when you turn on the radio. I think it's a peculiarity of 95s.

It doesn't matter how nice the body might be. The fact that it needs an engine transplant makes it worth almost nothing. How many people want to buy a car knowing the very first thing they have to do is change the engine?

If it could be done cheap the seller would've replaced the motor. It can't be done on the cheap.

The archives will identify at least one such individual. I assure you it's a true story

What babymog calls sweat equity and scoping down to a 603.96 or up to a 606 makes such a project appealing. I had everything I wanted in a 93 300SD 3.0 with working AC for sweat equity and less than $2000 in addition to acquisition cost. This car looks to be in better shape that what I started with.

Two years ago I'd have bid $6500 for that car. Ordinarily I don't like black, red or green, but the Russian VIN site says it's 199 metallic blue-black which is unblack enough for me.

But I agree, it's not for everyone.

Thats a new engine in 6 months, if you win the auction might as well order a long block from Metric at the same time.

I called up on a very nice sounding 350SD once with about 150k miles on it, the guy had it listed for $2,500. He was honest about the oil burning though, and realistic with the price. If the price is right...

Its a damn shame, because the W140 is probably one of the best sedans ever made. Its certianly a better S class than the W220 that followed it, and its more refined in every way than the W126.

People are afraid of them because they cannot really afford them, or don't want to. But when running right they are fantastic machines, you would have to pay $100k for a new S class to get a comparable car.

It's sad to see such a good car go to hell.

No, I'm done buying Mercedes for quite awhile, at least the next 5 years. I'm only buying real estate now, no cars.

Dammit there's a $5k bid. I'm out.

The guy told me that the bolster in the driver's seat is torn, kind of makes me fear for it's care and maintenance also, ... would've made a nice project though for the right price.

I guess that if value can be measured by what someone will pay then I was low on this one.
