87 300td wont start...think its ignition relay from "park"

i barely know what im talking about ...but i do suspect that its the "breaker" or the "relay" from the "park" position in the shifter... in other words the car doesnt seem to recognize that the car is in park to trigger the ignition to be allowed to turn over... does anyone have any advise ? anyone replaced one of these before?...thanks all

If there is any fore-aft play in the shift lever, replace the shift rod bushings then adjust the neutral start switch. If that doesn't do it, replace the neutral start switch.

If it starts fine in neutral then it is most likely the bushings. Mine is the same way, haven't gotten around to changing them yet. It's on my list of things do to along with the AC manifold Assembly, figuring out why my battery drains (probably the stereo that the previous owner installed) and why my dash lights come on when it starts and go off about 10 minutes later
