Did the folks on the non-Diesel side get this message ?

How can we make sure the Classic and Gassers get the message.

Some of the Gassers members expressed regret that they were not invited to
the Newcomb Ranch drive earlier.

From my point of view, the more the merrier......

What's up?

Haven't heard a word from Charlie about the April 4th GTG for about a month now. Anyone heard from Charlie? Are we still getting together?
I'm still planning on it, how about you?.......Dennis

I think all were invited, and yes there were some gassers there (a couple 126 coups). I heard there was even supposed to be a 123 gasser, but they did not show. I agree, the more the merrier!

Ok here's an update. The GTG and drive are still on. Valencia MB will donate to the raffle and some doorprizes and support us in that way, They CONNOT let us use the parking lot as they have free car washes for their customers on SAt. Mornings. I was there last Sat. morning and bare could find a place for my car...let alone 20-25.
I'm going to check out a couple polaces Sat. nearer the Freeway that we might be able to use for a couple hours.
I'd really like to keep the GTG and starting point in or around Santa Clarita, Valencia or Saugus. All the parks have soccer or Baseball games on Sat Mornings. Someone suggested the Park and Ride lot on the 14 at Golden Valley. I'll check that out. Also the Metrolink parking lot in Santa Clarita may be an option as there are few cars there on Sat. Mornings. I asked the church around the corner from the Dealership[, but they wanted a Million dollar ins. waiver.....They don't even on their parking lot, the SC water district does. There is a big empty parking lot right next to the Do It Center on Valencia BLVD. but that is owned by the water district also and is posted no parking.

I am open to suggestions as to where to start us out. The parts Guy from the dealership may join us too if he can get that SAt. off.

BTW any MB is welcome to join us, I don't know where the gasser side of this board is other than the tech help forum.

Colin,
I'm going to scour the area Sat. Morning. We need a place that has enough room for us. I seem to recall that behind that mall is a rather large area with a road coming out of the mall. I haven't been there for some time.

I thought you'd like to know that there is interest in your endeavor by the MB dealership. I was pleasantly surprised that they would embrace Alternative fuels. Eric in parts want to meet you and will try to get that day off to join us.

BTW I'm reading your daily blog too. Good Job!

Okay awesome! The picture isn't up to date, but there is some mall addition going in there that my friend was telling me about. Still, that early in the morning I don't think too many people will be going to the mall so we can claim parking spots. There is also the "Pavillions" place (Elephant Bar is there) that has parking spots right next to where I am staying. That might be a possibility too.

And that's fantastic about them being interested! The dealers here wanted nothing to do with me, they all gave me the run around before telling me that they would call back later. I'd be really interested in meeting him too! I can drive down there pretty much anytime that week, I was planning on taking Norm in for an inspection somewhere anyway, so if he can't get the day off I'd still like to meet him.

I got a LITTLE behind in my blog (ran out of time to do one yesterday, oops) but am currently in Dayton, Ohio! I'm getting excited to finally hit California!

If you Google the mall it'll give you an address. I don't know what it is.

meeting place

Hi all,
I believe there is a couple of college campuses nearby and they may have space for us - something to check out on Sat Charley.......Dennis

p.s. I too am reading your blog updates Colin and I can't help thinking how WAY COOL this road trip must be, and how many people are "following you" on this great adventure you are taking with Norm. When I was your age, I drove back and forth from Washington state to L.A. a few times, but that was because I couldn't afford the airfare. I never took a "road trip" when I was younger. I am looking forward to meet you and Norm and to share more of your adventure with me in person. Safe travels.......Dennis

Meeting Place Firmed This is a GO!!!!!

What: GTG and New, Old, Classic, Antique, Diesel, Gasser, Drive to the Casa Gutierrez in Leona Valley for Lunch up a scenic canyon and back down another scenic canyon to, it time permits, a local JY.

When: April 4, 2009, 9:00 am - 11:00 am

Where: Nethercutt Auto Museum

Map: http://www.nethercuttcollection.org/Map.htm

There are a couple of changes, due to some unfortunate happenings at the Rock Inn that I won't subject us to.

We will do a Nethercutt Auto Museum tour at 10:00 A.M. Followed by the canyon drive to leona Valley.
Lunch will be at Casa Gutierrez, Mexican and Seafood Restaurant in Leona Valley. The owner has graciously given us the banquet room up stairs, and he'll clear the parking lot for us if I call ahead so we can stage our cars in front and around the place. They aren't too busy on Sat afternoons. They have good steaks and Seafood there as well as some American food.

The Meet and greet will take place at the Nethercutt Auto Museum parking lot a short distance from I-5. We will do a tour at 10:00 A.M. then take the 5 to the 14 north to Sand Canyon Exit, left to Sierra Hwy, Right to Vasquez Canyon to Bouquet Canyon. Right 20-25 miles to Elizabeth Lake Rd. Left 2 1/2 miles to Casa Gutierrez in Leona Valley.

We will do lunch, have the raffle drawing and do the door prizes and have the swap/sell/buy parts there. When finished we will continue on Elizabeth Lake Rd. to San Fransquito Canyon back to the Valencia area. This canyon comes out on Copper Hill Rd, Right to Newhall Ranch Rd., Right to I-5, Then if there is time we can go to a local JY. I would suggest full fuel tanks just to be safe.

Remember this GTG is for Colin Coon and Ol' Norm and please bring a container of either cleaned used Veggie oil or new or a small donation for Colin. The raffle proceeds will be given in the entirety to Colin to help him on his way home.

For those that don't know. Colin has converted Ol Norm, a 300TD to use WVO and is making a sort of One lap around America. The conversion and the trip is his senior project in high school. Colin wants to become an alternative fuels engineer.
He'll be our guest. If you Google Colin's Green Machine you can find his website and daily blog. As of yesterday he is in Dayton Ohio, having driven from Sarasota Fl. through Washington D.C. on his way here to CA. from CA he will be returning to Sarasota Fl.

I'm working on an email invitation flyer for folks to print out. I will have maps available on the day of the GTG and drive.

All Mb's are welcome.

Everyone welcome.
New Mb's, Old Mb's, Classic Mb's, Antique Mb's, and of course Diesels and gassers.

Is "San Sylmar" (the building across the street) included in the tour? There are many more autos and also Musical Instruments to see in this 3+ story building. I have been there with AMICA (Automatic Musical Instrument Collectors Assn.), and it is AWSOME!!!

The Collection is by Reservation only, the auto museum isn't. If you want to do the whole thing we'll have to make reservations. Can one see the whole thing a a couple hours?
I called this morning and found that info out.
