Coolant overflow?
What I thought was a coolant leak on my 300SD turned out to be overflow from the coolant reservoir. I found that I had antifreeze running down the inside of the quarter panel. Did the 300SD originally have an overflow bottle that would have collected this? Or is it supposed to run off onto the ground?

I do not know but will guess that the '82 SD does not have an overflow bottle. If the reservoir is over-full, it will go onto the ground. YMMV.

On my W124 the overflow bottle is in the quarter panel. I suspect it is the same for you. Either the overflow bottle is full, or it is damaged. You need to remove the plastic inner wheel well cover to get to the bottle.

Its just a tube. If you over fill the tank it will make a mess when it spits out the tube.

Both of my 126's just have a hose routed down into the spring perch hole, no overflow bottle.
