Exclamation Restoring SLS in my 240TD Wagon

Greetings from the Philippines! Hello! This is my very first post and would like to gain some inputs from the seniors/veterans from this site. I have recently acquired my dad's W123 240TD wagon and its currently work in progress. My dilema is that the SLS no longer work. I was told by my dad that he had replaced the hydraulic shocks with regular shocks and have replaced the coil springs as well. Everything is intact except for this 4 items (2 shocks/2 springs). To restore SLS to original it would cost me more or less $1,200 dollars so I was thinking of just getting Bilstein shocks and coil springs (for the W116) to avoid sag since the wagon's rear is really heavy. I dont carry heavy stuff just a maximum of 3 people in the rear at times.

I need an alternative since I currently don't have the cash to restore it at this time and the "thugs" are killing my ears when going through uneven/cracked asphalt roads here. Any inputs would be very helpful. Thanks in anticipation.

This link might be worth reading:

300TD SLS pump removal and suspension conversion

I had a friend to had a TD with air shocks... he only had it for a couple of years, but in that time he had no problems with the suspension. The p.o. had done the work, so I know little about what parts he used; sorry!

In my opinion the best bet is to find a TD in a junkyard and cannibalize the parts you need.

thugs == thuds

The springs don't "have" to be replaced AFAIK. You should be able to get away with just the shocks. They are not cheap. Perhaps you could find a used set on car-part.com and someone willing to ship them?

He probably is going to have a few problems with that.

Yeah, I bet there aren't many TD's in the scrap yards down there. or 123's for that matter.

also I reckon there is something else wrong with the system, or it would not have been removed. unless it was the struts leaking.
