Center heat mod for manual climate control W123s

These are the spare parts you need:
Vent hose. This does not have to be MB hose, I just had some handy.
Vent. You can reuse the non-closing vent but the job will be harder due to size/length differences. You can reuse the lock ring.
Tee. Can be anything, plastic, metal, PVC, rubber. I used a vacuum connection from a broken shop grinder.

First remove the glovebox. Pry up the plastic pins around the inside (about 6 of them) then remove the cylinders they lived in. Pry out the light and feed it back though its hole (Don't let the exposed terminal touch metal or you'll have sparks flying!)

Next, the rubber boot behind the stock vent must be blocked. It can't be easily eliminated since its shared between the two center vents. I didn't have a stapler strong enough so I chose the "silenced mummy" method.

Remove the right vent tube from the blower box and the right center vent. This is done by twisting the body while holding the outer ring. It will pop right out and the outer ring will stay in place on its own.
Use some of the spare hose to make a short coupler.
Install the new vent, attach the vent hose and attach the right vent.

Put the glovebox back in and you're finished. You may have to flatten the hose a bit for the glovebox to fit.

Congratulations. Either you can have two heat vents blowing on you or your back seat riders can have heat blowing on more than just their feet.

Can't you just wire the flapper open?

If you like freezing air always blowing at you full blast.

The manual CC is not like the auto CC. The center vents get their air before the heater core so they only see ambient or A/C air.

This explains my problem with the SD. With the center vents always open by running full vacuum to the pod, the temperature of the air is significantly colder than the air directed to the defrost and legroom outlets. Even by using the dash controls, the air leakage past the closed vents is significant in the winter and the cabin won't properly warm up.

Others have experienced a similar symptoms with the W126.

Thanks!

Anyone know if this will work for a 115? The controls work the same, there is a lever that opens the center vents to the outside air, so they stay closed all winter. Sure would be nice to get warm air out of them.

PS...Why do you have two boost gauges?

I don't have personal experience with the W126 CC so I don't know if that is the case. I do know that propping open the center flap on my 300TD's ACC produced heated air.

If you can only get cool air from them, I don't see why it couldn't work.

Left is boost pressure, right is turbo drive pressure (exhaust manifold backpressure).
