restriction = pressure But I do have another issue that I think may be the high pressure bypass valve opening in the oil filter housing. I find at times the pressure drops. If I let off the accelerator pedal and the vehicle speed drops, at a certain point, the pressure jumps back up. I can then carefully apply the accelerator again and keep it a 3 bar.

Just as a point of reference, my hot idle oil pressure is pretty much 1 bar exactly. This is on a euro N/A OM602 without an oil cooler, running at 95C, and using 5w-40 synthetic oil. The engine has been running this way for 10k miles since I've had it with no issues whatsoever.

Monsieur LaFleur,
Just thought I'd remind everyone of how explicit this rebuild is for anyone rebuilding a 60x series. additionally, In hindsight, was it worth the $200 for a new oil pump? What / how loose did the rods feel at the wrist pins before and after replacement? What is one thing you would have done differently during the rebuild? thank you for an excellent source of information! |

Hot oil pressure is still the same, possibly a little lower.
If I had to do it all over, I probably would have plastigauged the crank even though it had been reconditioned. I begin to wonder if he ground the bearing surfaces past spec.

As the the wristpins, I disassembled them years earlier, so I have no idea if they felt any different.

Thanks for replying...you bumped this thread to the top of the diesel discussion and gave me a chance to read all glorious and "not so glorious" 12 pages of your build.
Great job, super documentation, and precise enthusiast work to boot. Thanks again for the awesome inspiration.
