It all depends on how cold it is. My car sit under a car port, and the guage does not move unless the ambient temp is 35F or higher. I do have the factory block heater.

No heater for me.I tried warming head with hair dryer, and heating fuel lines with line heaters. Finally I took my small propane bottle and ran it to the intake. She fired right off then.
And I have 25% K1 in the tank.

Rudolf is from North Carolina, so no heater I love the 603. Having the afterglow modification is a real help.

At that temperature I would leave the SDL and drive the 'Burban. She has heated seats

LOL! -22F I can't even imagine that!!! It was 11 this morning in Richmond and the "Mighty Whitey" fired up after 1 glow cycle. The previous cold start record for my car was 14F. Just curious. What do you do when it's -22 outside and you actually have to go outside?

11 degrees this morning in Greensboro, NC --- My 83 300D has no heater, and has been sitting without being cranked since Tuesday....I gave her 2 'glows' --- she wanted to fire, but just didn't have it in her....didn't push her - as she's due a certain level of respect! My 85 SD, was in the garage with the driver door left ajar, and interior lights on---Battery was dead.

So when the Diesels are down ---- The Rover steps up --- Rover hasn't been cranked in a couple of weeks ---- She fired right up, turned on the heated seats, tuned in the '70's' channel on Sirius Satelite Radio and off we went......

Block heater makes a difference!

Well, after changing the battery to a Interstate Grp 93 and finally getting my block heater cord installed, I've found that the old Benz starts up just like in summertime. Like one quick crank the moment the glowplug light goes off. She starts like a champ and the blower starts blowing just about instantly with tepid air.

By the time I've reached the highway, its already showing 40 degrees and real heat is starting to come out. It does smoke a little white/grey smoke on startup, but this goes away as soon as the car is really warm.

Oh and discovered one can change the block heater cord from above by simply removing the air filter bellows and reaching in with some choice curses

The same thing I do when it is 11F outside.

It's all relative. When it warms up to 30F this Sunday (as it is supposed to) it will feel tropical. I guarantee I will see people wearing shorts and tshirts outside!

7 degrees this morning. Started after 3 glow cycles and lots of cranking. Tonight I plug in the block heater for the first time ever!

Came back home around 12:50 today -- Temp was 20 degrees, Thought I'd give the 83 300D another try even though I didn't have high hopes as where she's parked gets no sun...but on the 3rd attempt, with a little work the ol' girl fired up! I allowed her to warm up, then took her for a dose of fuel and added E-Zoil DieselAid fuel conditioner...Drove around for a while to make certain the now treated fuel made it's way thru the system...and now she's parked back safe at home.

It's supposed to get down to 8 degrees tonight with some light wind --- We'll see what tomorrow morning brings. Chance of snow on Sunday --- Not even an "MB Classic" day -- that will be a fun Rover day!

Interestingly enough all of my cold start issues went away when I turned the element holders on the IP. 12degree, regular glow, caught on 2nd rotation and away she went..,.

Left some nice soot marks though
