Haha yeah, it's taking me a while to learn what everything is on Norm! That was the first time I've had the glove box out, and I've only taken it out once since then (Monday).

I'm trying I swear!!

Half a decade since I went down this road, and people are still trying to figure out these darn cruise amps.

Just know that you can pretty easily integrate a modern cruise control using the factory stalk, and I suspect if you really wanted even the original cruise servo(bad idea).
If I was going to spend time replacing aged caps, it'd be in the climate module, and checking the control head for solder cracks. I was quite happy with mine.
By all means, have a good time, but don't think it's the only option, nor is buying a $300 rebuilt module and matching servo, or however much it costs now.

I don't have to do this at all...my cruise works fine. I just wanted to help some people out, as I suspect it is a small, easy fix once we figure out what the main problem is.

Plus, this will give me a little practice in troubleshooting hardware for my class.

I didn't intend to discourage, I had the same interest as well. I would suggest to search the site here though, there has been lots of good info posted years back.
Something else you might look into is a way to fuse it against a worn servo hurting it, it was on my list and I ran out of time.

repair skills

I appreciate the work you do. Count me in when you are ready to show your repair skills. I have a 1987 SDL W126. It's a 14 pin unit #0035458632
My symptoms are: CC disengages when there is a small bump on the road.

OK, I got a few units in, and am starting to play now. The ones I got are different than the one I have in my car, but still 14-pin, so hopefully there will be no problems with that.

I got some schematics a while back, but they turned out to be for a Porsche, here's the link in case you want to check that out. Apparently these are very similar to the 10-pin MB units.

The Quickie Approach to try first.......

Thank you so much LowriderDog for this fantastic information.

The most common problem I have seen is a failure to set (See my posts above).

As the info says the most likely culprit is the electrolytic capacitor C19 which is the Sample and Hold cap for the speed. It is thus the 'memory' on the circuit. Also note the words of caution since Q9 is a MOSFET and is very easily destroyed so use good grounding techniques. Static is your enemy.

Thanks for your info too. Looking at the circuits on the schematic, C19 does look like a good first attempt for that circuit, but it's not the same as either of the ones I have here.

The Schematic I had was for a 12-pin with 2 dead ones. It could very well be close to the 10-pin in our Benz.
