He should jump right up to the Galaxy class... CDI's

Isn't the Galaxy class comprised of the S-klasse models?

Exclamation Houston, we have a problem!!!!

Several actually.
First, I am losing some kind of fluid, and this isn't a small drip!!! Odd since where the car had been parked for 2-3 weeks when I first looked at it was dry as a bone.
The fluid is brownish, and it definitely had an oily consistency. My tranny fluid is bright red, so it doesn't appear to be that, and my oil is coal black, so that wouldn't seem to be it either. What the heck else would be brown??? About all that is left is antifreeze, which it seems to be too oily to be, or power steering fluid? [coming from engine area, not rear end]
I haven't looked under car as we are having a church youth event and I've been helping ferry around 19 11th grade girls. Noticed the leak under the front of the car last night, and in 2 hours it leaks a stain about the size of a tennis ball or two!!
Switching to China for now.
Also this car is a dog! Slow, and after every shift it totally falls on its nose. You have to almost floor it to keep any momentum.
Haven't done anything to address any of this, just parking it for now.......

That much fluid loss should register where you measure and I'll bet it's PS fluid. If you see it easily as you approach the car it's probably leaking from the pump or one of the hoses that attaches to the pump.

The return line in the pics in the first post looks very clean. Trace it from the the pump through the cooling loop to the steering box. I've yet to acquire an MB that didn't need a new return line.

Check also the bottom of the reservoir where it meets the pump body. There's a big o-ring at the base and a small o-ring around each of the 3 screws that holds the reservoir to the pump body. If the backside of the pulley is wet, could be a tired front seal.

Well, methinks this might be best case scenario. I went ahead and pulled it into the garage and jacked it up. I just had to know!!!
It appears I blew out an engine mount! Do these things have oil in them? It sure appears so.

And the winner appears to be:

Those don't look too terribly hard to replace, but they don't look like a walk in the park either. They also can't be cheap!
The nickel and diming process has begun.......

And why on earth does this car fall flat on its face after every shift!?!?

Smash if available but we are a notoriously cheap bunch here. [except when we are selling! ] He is rock solid with several great bullet points, but he does look like Fido's arse........
A steal for anybody who can do paint and body.

Will be using China for the rest of the weekend. Smash would be the perfect car as I could use the 3rd row seating for an additional 2 riders, but my youngest daughter, who is tagging along will have none of that!!! I'll give her this: she has bonded with China too. She said even with the '95 that China is her favorite. A lovable mutt......

When I replaced my mounts, I cut one open for giggles and it was full of that brown fluid. Also, unless it's different on your 124/606 combination, it looks like your mounts are installed upside down...

The mounts do have fluid in them.....

With regards to your car being slow, it could be several reasons. I am sure you have checked the usual culprits, air filter, throttle linkage, loose acc pad etc.....

My advice to you is to use a diesel fuel additive and really get on the car. I did this for a week or so and the car really loosened up and is faster than when I first got it. The car sitting plus perhaps the PO never getting on it could be a reason why it feels so slow. Try driving between 35-4500 rpm's and see if the engine loosens up a bit!

Ah, that solves the mystery of what the brown goo under my car is (well, was, it's mostly gone now). I noticed a similar substance a couple years ago and couldn't figure out what it was ... I assumed it was something gross from the road that I should avoid touching. Not long before that I had had a really bad motor mount replaced (both mounts replaced), so that must be where the goo came from.

Holy crap!

I had the same brown goo shortly after my head gasket replacement. I removed the skid plate, cleaned it, and it hasn't leaked a drop since.

Perhaps mine exploded as well; it still idles smoother than any car I've owned, though.

Yep, a gasser is probably fine on the collapsed rubber for awhile. A diesel is somewhat less forgiving in the vibration department......
Expensive little buggers........

Nope, but just typical MB.
My F150 has 210K, has never dripped a drop in it's life, has original frontend. Nothing ever breaks. These cars just require $$ and time to be thrown at them. But I feel much better knowing the fluid wasn't coming from somewhere else.....
