delivery valves
I have leaking delivery valves. Can I do this w/o the removal of the intake, or is their an easier way because it sits on top of the ip.

It's difficult to get the injector lines out of the way with the intake in place. Also difficult to get the splined socket and breaker bar or torque wrench over the delivery valve holders. In fact I imagine it's impossible. Then you have to futz with replacing seals without a direct view into the delivery valves. Pull the d@mn intake manifold

I resealed the delivery valves on my SDL with the intake in place.
I gently moved the IP lines over enough to get the socket on the ports . Did not have too much trouble. Hardest part was removing and replacing the lock collars that prevent the valves from turning. But it can be done with the intake on.

I did my deliver valve seals with the intake in place on the 86 and 87 300SDLs

I have a '91 350SD that I just changed the injection pump seals two days ago. Very easy to change them, there's no reason to remove the intake. Same with glow plugs, if you ever need to change them, leave the intake on.
