Chevy S10 617
So i just came across a 126 sitting out in a guy's yard that he never drives. He doesnt like the car and complains about how slow it is going up hills....if only he knew how mine runs! Anyways, i took a peek at the odo and its only got 252,000 on the clock...about 80,000 less than mine. The body is in perfect shape and is the exact same color as mine. go figure. the interior is pretty bad and the driver side rear window doesnt work.
So my idea is to buy the car and use all the good parts on it for my car and use the engine in in for an S10 project. I know this would be a long shot but i have always wanted a 4x4 S10 with a 617 that i could haul stuff around in and still get descent mileage. The biggest hurdle will be linking up the tranny and the 617. i plan to use an S10 5 speed that way i would only have a slight loss in mileage due to wind resistance and such. does anyone have any ideas on the best way to link the two?

I went digging through my bookmarks but couldn't find the information you need. The manual transmission in a 115 has a bellhousing that unbolts from the gear box. there is a page here somewhere with pictures that shows a bellhousing from a 115 bolted to the gear box standard to UPS trucks (if my memory isnt decieveing me) he had a plate fabbed to mate the two and center the gear box to the bell housing. The engine ought to fit in the truck, makes some mounts! do able for sure! search function as they say! lot to learn!
EDIT also i remember the s10 clutch tool fits that of the manual for a 240D and a volvo... |

thanks i would just like some input on the whole thing. i plan on using an older S10 to avoid complications, and a VNT of course.

The 617 probably weighs close to twice what the stock S10 motor weighs....so that would probably be a big issue....that'd be horrifying weight distribution, you'd need a 1" thick slab of lead in the bed of the truck to balance it out a bit!

not if we are talking a 4.3 liter V6 which is essentially a chevy 350 with 2 less cylinders.

A 617 has been swapped into a Ford Ranger before, an S10 wouldn't be much different.

IIRC the complete weight of a 617 turbo is around 585. Very comparable to a SBC, IIRc. But a SBC would be too heavy for an s10 in my book.
a 616 would be better imho.

S10's are ultra unsafe tin-cans......I've ridden in one. Yikes. Pretty much every accident we have around here involving one....the person dies.
The best S10 is one being crushed and made into something else.....that goes for the ford Ranger too.
