Probably depends on the age of the vehicle in Texas.
I think it's now old enough in Texas to get Classic or Antique license plates on it. They're dirt cheap compared to the annual regular Texas plates.
I had an Antique plate on my '76 Honda CB 550Four motorcycle. When I bought it, I told the previous owner to leave the title sales price blank, and I'd fill it in. I put $50.00 in the sales price and paid tax accordingly. The Antique plate was $80.00 for 5 years and it didn't require the annual state inspection.
