90 degree hood? broke?

I seen several posts on service angle 90 degrees did search havent come up with anything is there something u have to pull or release or something to get go 90 degrees or whats the deal with getting it to 90 degree?

I'm not absolutely sure how to do it on your model, but on the w126 cars, you raise the hood until it's just about stopped at the highest point (~45 degrees), then on the drivers side release the little latch at the middle of the hinge, raise it a little more, then repeat on the passenger side.
After that, lift it to 90 degrees.

On the w201 that a friend has, it's even easier. Just raise it until it stops, then release a button on one side and push it up to 90.


You should be able to puzzle it out by looking at the hinge area for extra bits.

The w123 also has a little release device on each hinge to fully open the hood

Sort of a giant sail, eh? I've had the hood of my '77 300D vertical in the wind without problems, but mine actually locks upright at both hinges so that it can't go anywhere. If it didn't lock securely, the hood would have the power to kill for sure.

The 210 cars also have a single release on the passenger side.

I've had a couple folks stop by my place with 123s that never new the hood went up 90 degrees and by the look of the catch/release levers nobody had known for a long time

Heck, I didn't even know until after I purchased mine and saw it mentioned on the forum, and that was after months of lurking here!

Speaking of stopping by, wasn't I supposed to pick up an old cracked-up dash from you for rejuvenation experimentation? Still got that thing hanging out in a barn somewhere? General life, house shopping, and lack of our own home kind of got in the way of things like parts gathering for a while.

Oh sure, Its still there in the barn, swing by when your over this way. There maybe only a "foot" ferry from Whidbey Isl to port Townsend if you come that way, also the Hood Cannel' bridge is going to be closed for a while this spring, so check before heading this way. The merchants in town are really pissed.
