What about this 83 240D?

I am thinking about going to take a look at this 83 manual 240D. The add says that the "engine runs but car is not drivable due to a knock in the fourth cylinder (cylinder closest to firewall)." What do you all think about this? Give me some feedback on this one - go have a look? don't bother making the 45 minute drive? drive in the opposite direction as fast as you can?

What is the likely problem?

Thanks,

Mark

Ask if it puts out an abnormal amount of smoke, it may be a nailing injector. With "about" 300,000 miles it could just need to be rebuilt and does actually have a mechanical problem. When you go to check it out bring a 17mm wrench with you and if the seller is cool with it, crack the injector line on that #4 cylinder, if the knock is gone you'll know it's the injector. Hopefully that won't piss the seller off

For kicks, ask what is underneath that dashboard carpet , we all know what the answer is but it's the sellers reaction that you're looking for.

Oh, nice, thanks for alerting me - you know I didn't even catch that. I wonder if it's velour?

If you are serious about this car, you took a very big risk
posting the link.
