Angry Bad Fuel leak

Hey guys,
haven't logged in in a awhile. I have this 82 300D turbo that has developed a serious fuel leak out of the primer pump. It is leaking out of the hand pump's shaft, and there appears to be part of a gasket just below the handle that I never noticed there before. I looked at fastlane and they list both the pump and the whole pump assy. The question is this: Should I go ahead and change the whole assy for $131.00 or just the pump for $18.95? Has anybody else had this problem and if so may help me a bit in this decision? Are there parts inside the assy besides the pump itself that may have gone bad as well? This car gets very bad mileage when driven above 2,000 RPM and I knew it was a leak but until now I couldn't find it. Thanks again for y'all's help.

Fastlane has the new style hand pump and it is really neat. No unscrewing, just push down with a spring return.

Of course you would only replace the hand pump if that is what is leaking expecially since it costs about 1/7 of the whole assembly. I don't know where else fuel could leak from besides the hand pump.

Thanks PEH, I'll go ahead and order the pump today. I'll let y'all know if it works. Hey, you wouldn't have any tips on removing and installing the pump do you? Location is extremely tight.

Thanks again for your help!

I replaced the hand pump on my 300SD and I don't remember it bring too hard to do. But your 300D may be a tighter fit. The pump just screws out and the new one back in if I remember right.

Lightbulb get it in thar!!!!

3jocks, I'll describe the tool
because I don't know the name.
The hand pump has edges for an open end wrench to fit. Use a 90 degree open end
wrench head that will fit onto
a socket wrench and extension
arm. The L shaped set up allows you to
get it in there.
Hope this helps.
