890,000 Miles on Original Engine

Check this out. This guy states that this 300D has 890,000 miles on the original engine and the tranny has had 3 rebuilds. I wonder if this is true? But why would you lie about something like this??

http://sandiego.craigslist.org/search/cta?query=mercedes+&minAsk=min&maxAsk=max
High miles (890,000). Original motor and third transmission rebuild. Everything runs fine. We drive to our ranch in Big Bear every two weeks and the car gets over 30mpg consistently. Some rust but not too bad. Interior in fair shape. A/C is busted.

Will be donated to charity if no takers.

If that mileage is correct, I'd buy it just for bragging rights.

Only a Mercedes diesel nut would do something like that. LOL!

Me too.

If my calculations are correct, that is already over
the 1 million k mark and closing in on 1 million miles.

A strong back could almost push it that far

Same here! I thought I had bragging rights with my 305,000 mile 240D! Only Mercedes-Benz. I hope he isn't lying

Ha!

I'd also buy it just to show off the odometer reading.

It also has a black interior, easily making it worth its value as a parts car.

However, it'd be sad to not see it reach its earned 1 million mile mark. Keep it in Southern California, and the rust will never get any worse, and cold starting on low compression nary an issue...

He didn't say how many times the engine/tranny had been rebuilt; still impressive.

I saw that. of course, even if it hadn't been shoved upward somehow, after that many miles, it's undoubtedly rock blasted to hell. The front bumper that I pulled off of my 480,000+ mile W123 was worn so thin from rocks and sand that copper and bare steel had been exposed on the leading edges. Same for the grille and everything else on the front of my car. I can't imagine one with so many more miles could really be any better.

I'm seriously tempted, even though it is so far away. Should save the cash, but how often does a piece of history like this show up? This sucker, if the mileage is accurate, is darn near ready for a museum!

Hmm, I might have to swing by and get a look at that thing next time I go surfing in La Jolla. I'll bring a camera if I do.

If it goes to charity, PNP gets it, and then the crusher.

It does say original eng. and trans rebuilt 3 times. If true, that should be one tired engine.

Also didn`t say, original owner. Rare, most sought after color combination, Bio-Diesel, WVO candidate

For $750.00 can`t go too wrong.
