I've read a lot of threads about WVO, but I'll be damned if I've seen any on ORB conversions!

I am sorry to hear about your situation. Don't get discouraged, this is the time you need to stand up and go on the offensive!!!! Take every job you can get, work your ass off and most important GET BACK IN SCHOOL!!!!!! I like many others ran into situations like you are facing now and never made it back to school. Do not let anything stop you from getting back to college and getting your degree.............nothing.

Good Luck

Yeah, don't call yourself a college dropout ... even if you have to put it on hold, that's not the same as "dropping out." You can always pick up where you left off and finish your degree after you work for a while and save some money. Also, maybe if you work really hard and show that you're serious about getting back on your feet, your parents will jump back in. I don't know your specific situation, but in any event, I would not give up on college ... there isn't a time limit on when you complete your degree. And FWIW, I know plenty of successful people who don't have degrees, anyway ... so don't feel completely forsaken. I hope things improve.

So after a mass breakdown at work today, my miracle worker of an employer offered an extra $100 a week.

seems to me that maybe i'll be ok after all of this.

i did get 2 calls on the 240D already tho.

i'm not ready to let go until i'm homeless.

Then what on earth was the purpose for post #1????
Your situation and your post history would seem to indicate a maturing episode should be in your future.
I guess this wasn't it after all........

Thats REAL lucky. Many people don't even have a job! I've only been able to find temporary work off and on, and I am a college grad in IT as of nearly a year ago. Tomorrow I start working for another 1.5-2 weeks where I worked the last 3 months of 2008......I have yet to find a lead on a permanent position.

Times are bad....

On the bright side, I have a strong possible sale pending on our stupid Rav4! Woohoo! My asking price is $3500.....boy would it be sweet to sell it full asking price.

Sell tow cars and only keep one, thats all you need. You going to lose money for sure, but a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. Besides you need a garage to be a car collector and insurance and license fee's. Change your major to the easiest one you can graduate the quickest with. (wish I did) Your in the danger zone of not ever getting a degree. Every year the brain gets slower to absorb and the fatique of work and school gets to be too much for most people.

I agree with that...

I couldn't DISagree more with that. Forget the quickest degree - a lot of them are nearly worthless in the job market. Figure out the most IN DEMAND degree you can get without having to go to school significantly longer.

I would also have to disagree with that as well. I didn't go back to school for my first degree until I was nearly 28 and I started on my third degree after I turned 38. Long as you keep using it you never loose it - unless you suffer from senility.

FWIW, one actual benefit of being a little older when you're in school is that MOST people have developed more discipline and take it more serioulsy. That means better grades. If I'd have gone to college right out of high school I'd probably have flunked out. Going back to school after 10 years of working my you-know-what off at physical labor jobs, I had a little more appreciation of the benefits of education - and I graduated with honors.

I only quoted this little snippet, even though I fully agree with your entire post. This one part, though, is especially important, even if it is getting to be off topic.

It is indeed true that as long as you use it, you won't lose it. Mental activity has been repeatedly shown to ward off Alzheimer's disease, for example.

Certainly, a sedentary mental life will initially make it harder and harder to learn as you get older, a lot of people have this happen to them. I say initially, because if you flex your sedentary brain enough, it will return to a rigorous, and allegedly younger state. That whole thing about it being harder to learn the older you get isn't very accurate. A ten-year-old in a third world nation will initially exhibit more trouble learning a written language than, say, a five year old learning alongside them, but give it a little time and effort, and they can both learn at the same rate.

It's never how old you are that makes learning difficult, it's how atrophied your brain has been allowed to become.
