Broke my front Spring

Hi,
I broke my front spring on my 96 E300D. I changed my brakes today on it, and when lifting the car as the drivers side front spring was decompressing i heard a snap. When removing the brakes, i saw that the front spring broke at the bottom of it, about 5 inches of the bottom part of the spring. Now, there is a used set of 4 springs for sale on ebay, that I want to purchase, but I do now know if they are the same springs as mine. The car that they came off of was a 97 E320. My guess is that they should all be the same, but just wanted to make sure before purchasing them.

I think I am just gonna buy a new set from phil. The price is not bad. Also how hard is it to remove and replace the spring using one of those compression tools? Last time i replace dthe springs it took me a week, since i didnt know about a tool that will compress the spring. I used a car jack and jacked the control arm with the sprint up towards the car and had problems getting everything in order. When using one of these spring compressor tools, do I need to remove the control arm?

No

There is no need to remove the control arm.
