Went under the car today and noticed this cracked disc between the drive shaft and transmission. I thought this was the flex disc. Tried to order one but noticed the flex disc doesn't look like this part. So, what is this part? (Am I being really stupid?) Is this the centering sleeve?

My car is a 1983 w123 300 D.

does your car have an automatic or manual transmission?

looks like a vibration damper

Vigilante 02-05-2009 02:45 PM

That's a 4-speed manual your looking at :)

TheDon 02-05-2009 02:47 PM

yep, its a vibration damper.

I'm also guessing the car is not a US spec car lol.

Norway eh... I just sent a delorean hood to Flekkefjord

Does your local dealer have the European spec microfiche? It's a real pain to read at times, but could be the only solution.

Of course, I could of read further and seen your location. Time for another glass of bourbon.

Assuming it is original equipment and has not been modified it should be attached with six bolts and is the flex disc/vibration damper. The original is no longer supplied, but is replaced by 123 410 00 15, which comes without the metal outer damper. See attached pic. Incidentally, according to the VIN, it is a Euro model.

winmutt 02-05-2009 03:45 PM

You can find em with 201 part numbers, I have one on the bench that came off a 123 but has 201 on it.

Cracked. I wouldn't worry about it. Mines cracked and is just fine. It will not cause damage (much atleast) if it lets go.

Vigilante 02-05-2009 05:07 PM

Since it ain't as critical as I thought, I will hold off the repair til I do my engine swap in the spring. I was totally freaked out by the thought of the outer metal damper flying around my drive shaft. So thanks guys!

One last thing, the parts that fits are 123 410 00 15 as lawsons said, and 210 410 00 15?
