Another Fuel Line Question- The plastic hoses
Thanks for previous responses to the other Black hoses in question.
Now I'm looking at these 2 other tubes (hoses): 1. Lift pump to Large filter 2. Return Line Injection Pump to Filter Housing Basically they look like hard plastic and mine are yellow. They fit over barbed brass connections at the end of each length. They may have been opaque at one time or clear. They basically looking like Fish Tank tubing; yes I know they can't be this. They are not leaking but the car is a 1982 and I'm thinking of replacing them as a Preventative Maintenance item. Is this a good idea? Or just let them go? They are not leaking but I would be afraid to wiggle them. Side Note: I had sent a message to Phil about the other Black hoses and he gave me information on these 2 by mistake. He said these are sold as an assemblies. $20/$40 each line. You mean the original material can not be purchased and just slid back onto the barbs? TY |

MB doesn't sell the clear line alone. As Phil said, you have to buy replacement hoses with fittings.
You can use any Diesel fuel rated line that will fit. Best to use external clamps if you replace just the line. It's very rare for these hoses to fail so I say wait for a leak. It's really helpful to know what car you're talking about so either include it in your profile or mention it when you start a new thread. Sixto 87 300D |

It isn't leaking so I'll skip it a few more decades. lol |

I've never quite figured out why people put everthing from the lawnmower to the parent's past cars in their sigs, ... seems that 'Benzes are the only things that matter.
Must be something I'm missing.

The plastic hose can also be replaced with rubber hose.
The only extra here is that when I did it I used a Butane lighter to soften the plastic enough to yank or pry them off with a dull knife. After that find the right sized rubber hose and use a hose clamp on each end. I can remember using 1/4 inch hose on the IP return line but do not remember if I used the same size between the filter and the Lift Pump. But, some people like the plastic hose so they can see if there is air in their system. There is also a Thread somewhere where a member bought some plastic tubing and used that to replace the old. He said he heated the ends so that they could be shoved over the barbs. He also said what tubing and where he got it.
