Maybe someone who owns a w124 diesel will swap cars with me for a 2 hour drive to a certain GTG. Then, Jimmy will know what 80mph in a 300SDL feels like and I'll know what 80mph feels like in a w124.

Jimmy? Are you reading this? I'll even LEAD the pack.

The couple that sold it to me picked up their "new" 2005 E320 CDI original owner car with 80k miles for, get this now, $18.5k. The female 1/2 of the couple will be using it for her new daily driver. She was raised in a MB diesel family and that is the only thing she has ever driven.

Anyway, I sure do like my new E300. I jumped ahead from 1981 (300D) to the 1995 E300. I sure do like the w124 diesels.
Good looking vehicle Jim. Should do well for you for quite a few years. A bit surprised that a 606 eats a head gasket so soon..........???

Nothing that you will find has the multitude of replacement parts that are on that SDL..........nothing.

The only weak link is the trans..........and it can go quite a bit more if necessary.

I hear that it happens, if you use synthetic oil, or WVO, or Zerex G-05.

Hopefully that'll start something, slow night.

Hattie did a lot of work on that car also. Besides, a new tranny is way cheaper that a new, disposable KIA.

Ummm, how can synthetic oil cause a head gasket to blow? Head Gasket material tends to swell more with contact from coolant/water than oil.

Nice score Jim. I still miss the 124 300D that my kid totaled. It was a nice highway cruiser.

BTW, I'm contemplating my first long distance trip in the 300SD since my ill fated attempt 2 years ago that you may recall. Gonna (try to) head down to Orlando at the end of the month in the old boy. The harmonic balancer and pulley I got from you have held up fine for my daily commute since I put it back together. Hopefully no suprises when I head him south.
