Vogtland buyers : shocks.
Can someone measure the sprung weight of a 126 shock for me? I am going to try to source some Bilstein sports that are better suited for our ride height. As best as I can tell the only difference on ours is the lower bracket which could be fabbed.

why not use sport shocks for the w123? arent there any AMG spec shock available or would these be valved wrong for the diesel motor weight? I dont know just asking. when I was ready I was going to start looking for AMG replacements for a 280CE since the ride height with the vogtlands looks similar to the AMG's at that time

I have never seen them out there, Bilstein does not make a sport short for W123.
do you think the shocks need to be shorter? It seems that even with the lowered stance we are within the stock ride height, if they are shorter you might hit the upper limit on a whoop in the road, whereas down would be limited by the bump stop (if there is one, I dont remember?) Ive never bottomed mine, and I drive pretty hard.

I think more valving or better valving is needed. They certainly need to be shorter, the max travel is going to be shorter with a stiffer spring.
Define "sprung" and I can do it. Is that with the car on the ground?
Ya, flat surface. You have Vogtlands right? Compare the two if you can.
I only got a chance to measure the fronts because it is wet out side.
W123 with vogtland springs shock length: 15.5" W126 with stock springs shock length: 18.5" |
That is a surprise. I would have expected lower. Bilstein has a "specialist" but I think they only custom fab. I sent an email, will call tomorrow if they don't respond.
I run w126 amg shocks on mine. They are ok, better than stock KYB's, but I still wish it were stiffer. I suppose at this point its the springs.
You are using W126 AMG shocks on the W123? Sigh, I don't see that Bilstein makes sports for the W126 either?
