pedal feels soft
I had an indy change the clutch MC in the 82 240D. Now it feels much softer then before and it seems to engage in the last 1/3 of clutch pedal.
Is there still some air left that he could not bleed out ? He was done in one hour. Did not remove the seat or the pedals assambly, just the floor covering all the down to metal.

I had problems with my MC and slave clutch cylinders. I tried the FSM technique, but it didn't work very well for me. I tired other bleeding methods from pressure to vacuum and both, also traditional method. I read one of the other threads on this. There was metion of the eccentric. I took out the rod (it had the black one, the longer one). I marked the eccentric white and black on the hex head for largest and smallest, or in out. Then I noticed that I couldn't get the rod back in. I searched for the other rod, as the Lucas MC comes with two. Mine is an '81 240D. I couldn't find it. I still had the old MC and looked at it rod. It was a bit different. I cut the old rod to a length I thought would work. Then I rounded the end. The clutch did work.
Before this, I tired something different. I had the slave on and its fitting attached. I took the slave off, with the fitting still attached. I bleed it by pushing in the slave's plunger and opening the bleeder screw. After a while it seemed to work. The slave was next to immposible to get in there. Then I raised the passenger side of the car about 1 foot. I put wood blocks underneathe and still kept the hydriulic jack in place. Tom |
