Autolite crap

I just did the glow plugs on my '82. Four of them were shot, one was good. Guess what: The one glow plug that was still working was the one that looked the oldest - and it was a Bosch. The other four that didn't work looked fairly new and still somewhat shiny. They were Autolites. Go figure...

I even put Bosch GPs into my 'knocker'. Yeah, it's still running...

And anyway, you know where I grew up. Gotta support my home country...

One SD I bought came with 5 new autolite glow plugs in the glove box. I promptly put them in the circular filing cabinet.

After 3 months use the tips on 2 of my Autolite plugs had swollen up enought that the were hard to pull out.
I replaced them with Bosch but kept the good used and new Autolite Glow Plugs that I have. So far I have not found an practical use for them; I am too much of a Pack Rat to throw them away.

They would probably make a good "ignitor" for those flame out the tail pipe systems old hot rods have.

Mine came with all autolites, plus 2 in the trunk with missing tips. Guess where they went?

Just changed out GPs that were supposed to be Bosch, paid for like they were Bosch and low-behold I bring you crap Autolite. Work a whole 5 months before they started
crapping out and by 8 months crapped out all together.
8 months. Isn't that a record for Autolite?

Possible autolite fun here too!

Replaced one of my plugs a few months ago with an autolite. All I could find at the time. My glow plug light came on and all was good. Lately light hasn't been coming on and car wouldn't start this morning and it was snowing lightly. Think my 1 autolite plug(closest to radiator) has crapped out. Either that or my relay is bad too. Live and learn I suppose. Will do more testing later.

I must have found some good ones. Mine have been in there for 15 months, and have not had a problem. The plugs that I replaced were bosch, and only 8 months old.

... if you have autolights in there for 15 months, you could be in for a world of hurt when they do fail... the autolights tend to blow up... like armor hotdogs...

You have a ticking time bomb in your engine. Why ruin an engine for a few $?
