speedo question
When I change my trans I will be putting my original 3.07 rear back in my coupe. The speedo was off before but I would like to have it correct. I have a 120 MPH speedo right now of unknown origin. It is off by around 15%. I think the original speedo was most likely a 85 mph speedo, which will not do with the 5 speed. Is there a 120 MPH speedo from a 3.07 car that I could use in my coupe to keep it 120 and make it accurate

looks like W116 300SD has 3.07, and W116 450SE, SEL have 3.06. W107 450SL,SLC have 3.06, Anyone know if these are mechanical and what the MPH reads on them?

IIRC, a speedo from either an '83 or '84 had higher mph readings, and has the 3.07 gearing.

Awesome thanx. now Im wondering if the speedo I have (120MPH) is just off due to tire size. I think I will wait until after I do the rear swap and see where I am.

Check the part number on the face of the speedo. The one from 85 is: 123 542 27 57.
My '82 has the 85 mph speedo, so I do not know what the part number would be for 83 or 84.

you can also tell by the speed of the hash marks. see what third gear max speed is and post it and we'll tell you what gear ratio its from.....if it came from a diesel.
