'72 220D value?
I'm in a bit of a bind because I have a '72 220D that I bought a while back that now has transmission issues which forces me to sell the car....can't afford the repairs.
The car has a so-so body, no real damage other than a not so good grill and oxidized paint. Newer tires, all original hubcaps. The locks are finicky, no carpet, a leaky windshield etc. However, the car has a factory new engine that was put in '85.....only 110k on the engine and the thing runs REALLY well. So I paid $800 and put $700 in to the car before the transmission got really bad.....I've been asking $1500 just to get out of it, figuring the engine was worth that much to the right person. However, people seem to think I'm nuts. Am I nuts? mark in Portland |

You are not nuts, but those old 220s are an aquired taste, they are very very simple though and if you are patient you will find someone who wants just what you have. When you find that person you need to find a way to get together with him or her and sell it.
If you can get all your money back you will be lucky.

220d
Hi, I paid $500 for a '71 220D. The car is a southern CA unit, has one repaint, 180,000 miles, a M-B installed engine with only 40,000 miles, all documented. The car looks and drives perfect except for a hit in the rear, so it's being scrapped. I'm taking the doors, hood and fenders for my daily driver, same color. The engine I'll save for a rainy day.
Most of my cars cost less than than $500. With the bad transmission, I'd think about $500 to $800 would be the selling price. You will be lucky if you get all your money back. Ron
