Replacing engine mounts 1999 E300TD
After doing an inspection, I now realize that my engine mounts do need replacing. Has anyone ever done this job theirself on a diesel 210? I called the dealership for a quote and was told that it would be a little over $500. If anyone has ever done this please share your experience with this repair. It is something I would like to try to do myself, and I'm hoping that it will solve my vibrations as well as my aligment. Thanks

It is a pretty straight forward job as the above thread states.
I would not lift the engine more than 3/8-1/2" w/o first disconnecting the exhaust, air filter, intercooler pipe and fan shroud or you risk breaking something. The mounts are not interchangeable. They're made using different hardness rubber compounds on each side. I can't see the engine mounts resolving an alignment issue.

I did mine without disconnecting anything and it didn't seem to be too stressed. Took about 2 hours I guess.
After you're finished, be sure to check the clearance between the PS pump pulley and the upper radiator hose. The new, higher engine position can allow them to come in contact (like mine did) and ultimately the hose will leak from the gash torn in it by the edge of the pulley... There should be a good 3/4" of clearance because the torque of the engine draws the hose downward towards the pulley.

Thanks for the replies. What is the best brand of engine mount to buy? Also can I do this job with the front wheels on ramps, or do I need to have the entire car level on jackstands?

Ramps are fine.
You want one Corteco (left) and one Febi (right) mount. http://catalog.peachparts.com/ShopByVehicle.epc?q=1999-Mercedes--benz-E300-Engine--Mechanical&yearid=1999%40%401999&makeid=63%40%40MERCEDES%2DBENZ%40%4063%40%40MERCEDES%2DBENZ%40%40X&modelid=6385%3AMBC%7C1572%3AED%7C814%3AFT%7C6%40%40E300&catid=240154%

ive finally gotten around to replacing these. I have one stupid question. My corteco engine mount came with a rubber case type thing. Is this supposed to be installed, or was it just some kind of shipping protection device?

That cover is to keep oil that happens to leak from the injection pump from ruining the rubber of the mount... I think

Correct. That is the left (drivers side) mount.

Yes, and when I tried to align mine I could not get it to align properly since I recall it having a keyed orientation so I omitted it. Leaving it out won't do any real harm in my opinion so I opted to install the mount without it. I suppose if you did have a bad leak directly above it then it might help prevent the fuel from getting on the mount but I am pretty diligent about watching for leaks and mine is bone dry under the hood.
