Why do my brakes squeak?

Say when backing out of the garage the brake squeak like crazy. They never make any noise when slowing down or at high speeds. The only seem to make noise when im backing up using a small amount of pedal pressure. I have textare pads on the front and Wagneer on the rear. I have coated the rotors in brake clean many times and it never makes a difference. Could it just be the pads or something else?

Cheap brakes

Did these come from one of those chain auto parts places?

the textar pads came from an online source, the Wagneer pads came from O'Reilly.

cheap brake parts will squeek.

You can spray the pads with anti squeek.

Oracle, are you talking about the paste you put on the back of the pads? Or a actual spray you apply to the friction material?

wait wait wait isn't there a self adjuster on our brakes? IIRC it adjusts brake clearance when you use the brakes in reverse.. could that be making noise too?

yeah mine do the same thing every once in a while but more often when they're really cold. I read in my Chilton that the disk brakes don't need adjustments and will self adjust when braking in reverse, then the book says to pop a frozen or sticky adjuster get up to a decent speed in reverse and repeatedly stomp the brake pedal. I don't know if that would do anything to your brakes since they should be clean from all that brake clean

both actually. you can spray the pads directly with anti squeel found at many local autopart stores. A lot of dealer techs spray the pads every time a brake job is done to avoid the car coming back and doing the job for free. The paste you dont put directly on the pads but on the other side. you dont want too much of the paste.

Been having that problem since I put new brakes on (not cheap brakes) Found out from some of the members here that the new pads are a tad bigger than the originals, and they rub the rotor a certain point. The solution is to put a bevel on the edge of the pad to miss the spot. my brake and muffler guy told me there was a "hot spot" of steel in the pad. Try searching this forum under squeeky brakes, and you'll probably get information overload on this very subject. Since I'm going to do a "complete" brake job this spring, from the bearings and hoses on out, I just let mine squeal. The wife hates it. And plenty of helpful strangers tell me that I need new brakes. I just smile and tell them they are new, and that the Germans designed them that way so people will know they're stopping.

I already applied the paste to the back of the pads. I'll go buy some spray to apply to the friction material.

I sometimes get a bit a squeak backing up, but it's usually after not driving for a few days. I always assumed there was a bit of surface rust on the rotor. It never lasts long.

Once the brakes are hot it seems to stop making noise. But when cold its very loud.

Exclamation Me Too !

On all my Mercedes and yes , I use dealer pads...

They only seem to squeal when cold and at low speeds .

There used to be this killer good anti-squeak , it was a thin sheet of rubber you'd stick to the back of the pads , it worked great but I've not seen it in nearly 10 years

The SL does the same thing, loud in reverse only with light pressure. My brake pads were done by my indy many years ago, so I have no idea as to the brand.
