Can someone measure thier block heater?

Im getting to think my block heater on the 240d is dead.. Does anyone know the resistance across the plug?

I checked continuity across the electrodes of my NG block heater and got none which reads as the numeral "1" on my DVM. If it is good, it should read near or at "0" which is what the new heater reads.

do you have an ammeter that clamps around a wire?

they are pretty cheap at harbor frieght....

it's a great way to see what loads are being used around the house - and is a great tool for a question like this - use the meter on the wire going to the block heater when it's plugged in - if there's no amperage flowing - you know you've got a problem.

Probably a good idea to remove and inspect the cord and plug too for resistance, as well as the heater element itself.

Should be around 20 to 40 ohms.

Those clamp amps should work. I just happened to measure both my 240D and 300D block heater with a Kilawatt (spell?) and it was 480 watts. At 120V, per ohms law, makes it 30 ohms.

That's great to know for reference.

I've recently replaced the block heater and cord in my 606 - but have not had a chance to use or measure it yet!
