Om606 in w123

ive searched around for information on putting a om606 in a w123 but i have a few questions.
Since its computer controlled alot of it I would need the pcm. I would have make/modify existing motor mounts. Also I would most likely have to use the 722.6 transmisson which is electronically controlled.
anything else I am forgetting?

Use a 603 IP and loose the computer.

The 603 IP still uses a computer-controlled idle, so you would have to do something. Still, that's probably a lot easier than making a 606 IP work.

To use the 606 computer, you also need a few other components from the donor. Everything related to DAS, of course, and they all must match; you can't mix the parts even from identical cars. For a later 606 computer, you'll need the electronic ignition switch. Etc, etc, etc.

I thought there was a way to get rid of the idle computer too

Im thinking about doing this to another w123 later and I want to figure everything out and finding a w210 donor car.

Im sure ill be learning all the ins and outs of the om606 at the elite training program

The 603 idle speed can be adjusted mechanically to loose the computer. The idle control was just a driver comfort feature. Losing the engine computer also means losing the electronic transmission since they rely on a CAN-bus to communicate and work together.
The down side to using the 603 pump is you loose some power. The 603 pump van be turned all the way up to reach the stock 175hp level but it won't have the capacity to make more.

Another problem with the 606 is it requires an intercooler. The W123 doesn't have a place to mount the factory cooler so something will have to be adapted.

An OM606.910 is a more mechanical configuration although without the turbo.
My question is, why on earth would anyone want this in a W123 and not a W124????
I'm not much of a W210 person so I didn't ask about that one.......

The 1995 E300D (W124) and the 1996-97 E300D (W210) used the mechanical 4-speed 722.4 transmission; it would probably be much easier to adapt into a W123. The 1985 300D (W123/OM617) also used a version of the 722.4 transmission, which is controlled by vacuum and a Bowden cable. While not as sophisticated as the later 5-speed electronic transmission, the 722.4 would be a lot easier to adapt.

You should also look at the early OM606 NA engine that came in the 1995 E300D (W124)was far more mechanical/less electronic than the later versions. It had a mechanical footfeed connection to the IP rather than a "fly by wire" electronic connection and would be easier to install in the older chassis.

The turbo version of the OM606 would be a lot more work to install because of the need to squeeze an intercooler into the radiator area.

You could always go with an air/water intercooler to save space.

Well I dont know about a fairly new v12 mercedes but possibly an earlier V12 mercedes could be in ajunkyard.

Im thinking at this point it will be less of headache to pull an complete drivetrain from w124 om606. Although I like w210 diesel because it perfoms better because more things have been made more electronic resulting in an a almost immediate response.
