Using a Cenn-Tech on a Hirschmann

Hi guys. For the longest time I've been keeping an eye out at the junkyard for a nice Hirschmann antenna, and today I finally found one with a fully retracted mast and chrome bezel, off a 79 300d. Hirschmann Auta 6000U, type 481. I'm assuming these are also good for gen 2 w123--at least, the plug fits and the bracket lines up with the hole on the chassis

I removed the 'old' aftermarket Hirschmann HIT Auta 2030 off the car. It was really attached in a ghetto way, with two metal leads poked into and electrical taped onto the plug on the chassis end. I plugged in the original antenna from the junkyard and got no power off it.

Before I go trying to remove the antenna switch from the wooden console on the dash and replacing it with a new one, I was wondering if I could test the socket on the chassis end with a multimeter to see if any power is coming to it, to determine if the problem is up or down-wind of the plug.

I have a cenn-tech multimeter but i'm not too smart on how to use it.



If it's possible to test it at the plug, could someone tell me how to do so? I'm assuming the key would have to be turned to the second ('on') position, and the antenna button depressed all the way so that it 'sticks' on to fully extend the mast. From that point, what setting should be selected on my multimeter which leads should be poked into which hole, and what should the readout on the display be?

I read the DIY wiki posted by member Yak:

and found this about the plugs on the chassis and antenna ends for 6000U antenna (paraphrased):

Mercedes connector in car
Pin 1: Combined Red and Red/Yellow/White = power
Pin 2: Blue w/ Gray stripe = trigger
Pin 3: Brown = Ground
Pin 4: Empty
Pin 5: Black = intermediate up (or maybe down)
Pin 6: Blue = intermediate down (or up?)

Wires on antenna
Pin 1: lightish Blue = power
Pin 2: Green w/yellow stripe = trigger
Pin 3: Brown = ground
Pin 5: Black = up, or maybe down
Pin 6: Black = down, or maybe up

Given this information and the picture of my multimeter, could someone instruct me on how to test if there is power at the chassis end of the plug? Or how about how to test the antenna itself by connecting it to a battery to see if the mast will extend?
