I have a gas bike, my next gasser will be a Chevy I4 or I6(hopefully)
After seeing the bill for injectors for a MB gasser I'm going to stick to domestics

I own a w203 c230K. Very nice little fun car. I drive the diesel much more often, but like them both for different reasons.

I have an 94 E420 that goes along with my diesel collection. Its nice to drive but all things considered if its not to cold I drive my W123, in the spring ill be taking my SDC out of storage. Over the 5 years or so of diesel ownership my driving style has become perfectly suited to these mercedes diesels, driving the E420 feels strange, and I find myself traveling way to fast.

I have both
I have both a 240D and a 450SL.They are both great cars!
I find myself driving the gasser more than the 240D though. If fuel prices start to increase again, the 450 will probably go into "hibernation" for a while.Hard to beat the 32-33MPG the 240 offers. The 240 was originally purchased as a "safe" car for my daughter. She has been unable to master the manual transmission so I drive it instead. An auto 240D was a brief thought, but it wouldn't be as "safe".She'd be in constant danger of being rear ended.....0-60 in 2.3 days!! |

Since 1973, I've had only Mercedes gassers, until two years ago when I bought a cheap, rusty 1982 240D for some diesel experience, and the possibility of experimenting with alternative fuels. Now my old Mercedes gassers have been pretty much retired and I drive a pair of 240Ds and a Euro 300TD.
Despite the higher cost for diesel. I simply couldn't justify my old gassers poor fuel mileage on premium gas. And I wanted to upgrade to a newer Benz, but without the complication of computers and other electronic gadgets, so my W123s also satisfied that requirement. But I do miss the extra power, performance, and especialy the extreme smoothness of the old straight sixes in my '72 250 and '60 Fintail, though my 5-speed TD comes pretty close to the Fintail in terms of power and performance. I should also mention I have a FWD '98 Nissan Altima for use in ice, snow, salt, and other horrible traffic conditions. Happy Motoring, Mark

1st car is a Mercedes diesel, I bought a Subaru gasser for the winter, and I have had my eye on a w116 long body 6.9 Mercedes for a while. I could get it for under 2k... Did I mention it's green on Velour green, manual HVAC controls, euro headlights? My favorite color combination and Mercedes body style, long w116 chassis. What a sweet car. It makes me want to sell my Subie.

2 gassers, 2 diesels...
Ol' Turbo sees the most use, followed by the wagon. I drive both gassers in fear of something going horribly wrong, and usually don't take them out of town.

Yeah...
A 300SE. Simple M103 motor I find overall easier to contend with than any of the OM60x turbocharged engines. But overall I prefer the diesel. Simply because they don't have that lousy dead spot in power delivery from idle to about 4K rpm. The M103 stock tuning is set this way by default...What a PITA! I prefer a V8 gasser over the I6 for city driving. However, the diesel provides the feel of a V8 on city and highway jaunts, plus twice the fuel economy.

Yep....M103 300E and a 617 300SD.....I like both for what they are....but prefer the diesel's sound and feel....way more torque. The gasser is nice and quiet going 75 on the freeway though. They're more of a pain to troubleshoot....but my throw parts at it method takes care of most problems eventually.
The sound of the gasser when revving it up is pretty awesome. Mileage and fuel costs are close to the same for both cars. My 300SD gets about 21-25mpg depending on winter/summer and how I drive.... The 300E gets between 15 and 22, once again, very dependent on how I drive.
