this is why the prices are higher here.By selling overseas for larger profit than they get here, they create a false demand in the states. This in turn keeps the prices elevated.because afterall they just "cant meet the increased demand for diesel" here in the us!yeah, right!

About a week ago my favorite station in St. L had diesel for 1.99/gallon and regular for 1.96/gallon. The gap is closing

We can still blame things on Big Oil?! Awesome ... I was starting to resort to silly things like reflecting on myself, the human race and plain old economics. Whew. I can't believe Big Oil didn't change the brake pads on my 240D earlier so I wouldn't have to replace the calipers. And this weather ... ugh ... why can't Big Oil just think of others and make it a delightful 70 degrees out for me? And the last guy that turned me down, here I thought it was me, but it was really just Big Oil conspiring against the little people, little people like me. Now I'm at peace. Damn you, Big Oil.

Seriously, diesel is $2.09 here ... I'm pretty thrilled. Although it is a discouraging sign at the core ... oil use is down because the country is down. Kind of sad. But not any conspiracy.

What nobody has said so far is that the prices quoted by the markets do NOT include taxes. add the tax to the market price and it comes close to what we are paying at the pump. The difference is the profit the companies make...

Jeez, at least we're not paying $4.50 a gallon for fuel anymore!

Although it still ticks me off that they didn't bother to start reducing the cost more gradually last year rather than letting the band play on up to that point and then say "oops, we didn't know"...or did they?

My father is getting his bio-diesel project up and running but I won't be converting my car to run on it, he can play with his VW TDI on that one.

However I think I might be tempted to add a few gallons of the stuff into my tank once it hits 3/4

I live in the oil drilling belt of California. When the price of crude goes below $45, all the pumps stop working. They cannot make any money at that price and layoff or idle the field workers.

With that said, the lowest priced diesel here is $2.07 a full 5 cents cheaper then regular gas. I never thought I would see ever see the day diesel is cheaper then gas.

Damn

Some of you guys in NC ship some of that cheap diesel out here to the coast! On Hatteras Island, diesel is $2.48, RUG $2.07.

If you drive 45 minutes north to Nags Head diesel is $2.13 or less. One place in Columbia, NC, has diesel for $2.09 last time I was through there a couple of weeks ago.

I'm not sure if it's transportation costs or greed that boosts the price of fuel (gas or diesel) some $0.20 + cents out here to the island......
