I had the windshield replaced last Friday by Clear Image, the same glass co the MB dealer uses.

They had the MB gasket but did not replace my old one b/c they said it was still in good shape. We'll they were probably right but I would have preferred that it was replaced anyway.

They removed the moulding by sliding it out and reinstalled it by sliding it in - not prying it out. Prying it out would bend or kink it.

They caulked the cavity between the glass and the gasket with some kind of urethane caulk. Overall, it seemed a decent job.

I later asked them what they would charge if I wanted the gasket and moulding replaced. They said $167 to replace both with MB parts plus charge me $50 for half of my $100 deductible. If I really wanted to, that seems fair since the moulding alone can run more than $100.

I'm thinking about replacing the windshield in my 300D myself. Did you notice how they removed the actual glass? Someone said to use fishing line.

The chrome just pops off (or pry's off).

I had rust around the window - I left the window in, and asked Macco to just grind around it- down near the window I used the solvent that hardens rust (rust preventive) - and macco did the putty work - 6 months now - all is well.
