om617 300sd idel speed
i have had an issue with my car and just would like to know any other proples thoughts
i have an 1983 300sd that has the idel adjustment screw missing and the metal bracket is broken. i bought the car like this and the previous owner had adjusted the idel through the tie rods on the injection pump. my issue is with oil pressure,, will a low idel give you low oil pressure, the car was running about 1.3 bar at 650 rpm, i upped the rpm to 800. and now oil pressure is about 1.5-1.8. is 800 rpm not in gear and 750 in gear normal. |

Find a parts yard and get the right parts. 1,3bar is just fine as long as it idles smooth.

You are probably just fine with the 1.3 bars. I would be concerned if it idled with 1 bar, or less of course. My 240D idles at about 650-700 rpms in park, and maybe 600 in drive, I am not exact on this, as I have no tach. But that is what it sounds like. At idle my oil pressure is about 1.75 bars, and quickly surpasses 3 bars when the rpms raise.

I looked in the FSM. I did not say if the idle was adjusted in gear. However, there is no separate idle speed for manual and automatic trans. This, makes me think the idle is adjusted in Park if you have an automatic trans.
for 617.912 81-83 Idle speed at 80 degrees C is 750 + or - 50 rpm. 617.95 was listed as 700-800 rpm at the same temp. So if your SD is 800 in Park that is within limits. There was a caution note: "If speed is set higher, engine will leave idle speed control range and may increase to maximum engine speed (at no load)."
