W115 240D wiper stuck & blows fuses
My 74 240D as I turned on the wipers the other day, it went halfway then made a clunk sound and blew a fuse. It keeps blowing fuses. I cannot move the wiper arm by hand, it is stuck. Has this happened to you ? how to fix ?:(

The mechanism is under the dash, attached to the firewall. Difficult to see, but you can find it with your hand. The mechanism is kind of "in the open" under there and is susceptible to having the drive arm from the motor popping out of its drive socket on the mechanism that turns the rotating motion of the motor into the back and forth translation of the wipers. Anyway, if the wipers (one or both) have disconnected or the drive arm has disconnected, it is possible for the mechanism to jam. When that happens it is possible for the motor to be prevented from turning, resulting in the fuse blowing. It is also possible something else fell on the mechanism and is blocking it. But in all likelihood one of the wiper connections or the drive arm has popped off and is locking the motor.
Good luck. When this happened to me I would reach up there, blind, and just pop the joint back together. It would run for another year or more before it would pop out again. Jim |
