its completely vacuum so look for leaks , it could be also the vacuum pods in the doors and in the trunk or the vacuum reservoir in the trunk above the fuel tank

Does it shut off quickly with the key?
Check the vacuum line to the reservoir above the fuel tank in the trunk, this is a VERY common place for leaks and will make the CLS useless. |

The large black line that attaches to the brake booster is the vacuum supply line from the vac. pump attached on the fromt of the engine.
there are a couple of small lines coming off the black line to various controls. the Brown line connecting to the fuel shut off on the back of the injection pump is controlled off the back of the ignition switch. there is a supply in and out. the green line controls the Climate control AC etc... there are two yellow lines with a yellow pod which is a one way check valve. one runs to the vac storage tank under the hat shelf in the trunk above the fuel tank. The other yellow line runs to the drivers door, and from there it branches to the other three doors, the fuel door and the trunk. there are vacuum actuators in each of these areas that could have a leak. the yellow line with the red stripe is the lock side. the yellow line with the green stripe is the unlock side. You will need a Mighty vac to chase down the leak. Pull up the floor carpet you will see rubber "T`s" the lines connect to. disconnect each door etc... and start pumping to trace down the leak. I had a problem with the engine not shutting off, hard shifting etc... got tird of being raped at the repair shop. It never got fixed. when I found how the system worked, discovered the R/R door actuator was leaking. fixed it and the last 5 yrs have been good . Charlie

Sweeet. Thanks guys, very much. l will continue my investigations on this matter. l`ve been tinkering with the car since l got it; adjusted the ALDA, checked/set the IP pressure via the banjo bolt spring, dissabled the EGR,added a boost gauge, etc. So far,so good...

Any chance you knocked a vacuum line loose while doing other work. It has been known to happen. It might be worth checking the lines near the brake booster.

Look in the trunk, at the area that is under the rear shelf (where the rear speakers are). On the right side, up underneath the shelf, you will see a funny-looking plastic "egg carton" thing with a vacuum line going to it. That is the reservoir for the vacuum system. It "powers" the central locking system when the engine is not running and is supposed to be good for five or six cycles before it "runs out of vacuum."
