what would you put these 617's into? I've got 2

I have two extra 617's in the barn..

should they go in to a truck? how much gross weight could they haul around, and still not be overloaded? 5000 lbs?

I would love to put one in my 46 Power wagon, but I am afraid it is just a little under powered.. maybe with a VNT it's power band would be low enough.. but then there is still a question of what kind of manual transmission to put behind it.. any suggestions?

a ford ranger? chevy S-10?

OR should i find a 300SD that needs a motor, and be ahead of the game by a country mile?

There may be a eruo 300 SLC for sale locally, some rust, but I do like coupes.. he probably wants too much for it..

What would you do?

Doesn't the PW's 230 six make about 60hp? The turbo 617 would be more powerful...

If you have a matched set of 617's why not put them in a boat?

depends on what you want to drive around. I've been kicking around the thought of doing a cherokee or wagoneer for a family hauler. or a 1/2 ton P/U if you need one of them.

my TD(about 4k empty) is routinely loaded ≈1K lbs, and moves it around pretty well. towing anything behind it would be a slow journey. i moved 8K w/ it, it was somewhat slow, but it went.

a cummins 4bt would fit the PW better.

94HP about 200lb ft at 1600 rpm.. I have been trying to convince myself that a VNT would bring the two power curves closer together.. but afraid it may not quite...

Ive seen pictures of a 617 in a ford ranger. It looked like a very tight fit.

ROFL.

My spare 617 may be going into a Rolls-Royce Cloud 2 this summer.

As soon as my 98 Land rover Disco's motor starts giving me any trouble, out she goes, and in comes a 617. I refuse to pay $4-5000 for a new long block 4.0 Rover V8, when $4000 could easily turn my Rover into an oil burner.

I've been thinking it might be possible to put a 617 into a Triumph TR-6. The TR-6 frame has plenty of length, but I'm not sure if it's wide enough.

I wonder if anybody has already done it?

For some reason I really like the idea of a diesel vintage sports car.

I saw a 617 in an IH Scout. It looked pretty good under the hood.
