Rebuilding injection pump

Rebuilding the BOSCH diesel injection pump.
There is at least one customer per week asking if this is DIY.
ANSWER: This is not a DIY job on a Mercedes, ever...

Here are some pictures of the basic calibration and test stands needed to rebuild the BOSCH diesel injection pump correctly.

The shop owner allowed me in to take these pictures.

The cheapest machine is $148,000.00 USD..

I dunno Whunter, just read a thread about a guy who made his own freeze plugs in the middle of the desert. I bet he could rebuild an injection pump with a hammer and a pair of needle nose pliers

I saw a used Calibration Stand that was the same model as the one I used to use where I used to work sold on Ebay for $780. The catch was it was pickup only and it was in the south east.
The Seller had bought it from a school that was selling off their surplus equipment. This would mean that it might not have been used much.
This one is made by the same company Bacharach but is slightly different from the one I used to use; starting bid $8,000.

yep I bought a really nice inspection table from Washington State Surplus. They have an ebay store. Check it lots of good deals on random junk. The Starrett Inspection Table I got was in great shape. The granite was in perect shape. I got it for $995.00. And it is a decent model. Just think all those tax dollars and they're selling for pennys on the dollar.

Taxpayers loss, My Gain haha.

In the past Schools were shutting down their "Shop" classes due to
LiabilityIssues.
I bought a brand new (American made) Bacharach Pop/Nozzle Tester that the Ebay Seller had I guess bought surplus (the schools property tag was still on the tester). Exactly the same one I used when I did that sort of work. It still had the instruction manual with it.
It was missing some of the adapter nuts; of course the one for Mercedes was missing.
I contacted Bacarach and found that they stopped making that Pop-tester 11 years ago. They could supply the adapter at $35 each + shipping.
I ended up sleeving and threading one of the other adapters that I had 2 of. (To make the whole adapter from scratch you need a left hand Tap for the tester end of the adapter and the 12mm Tap for the other end.)
