1985 300D Alarm system???

Hi all still having some problems the rest might seem stupid but I am stumped. Did a 1985 300D have a factory alarm system? There is a "ticking" from the left hand corner of the dash up near the vent near the window on the drivers side. Its not a clock or anything else. Everytime I open the door it "ticks and ticks". And there is a horn underneath the battery tray that has been disabled. So is this an alarm system? And if do how do I diable it? Thanks guys

Did you ever get the answer to your question? Does the car come with a factory alarm system? Thanks

Welcome to the Forum.

That guy is long gone.

I don`t know if they came with a factory alarm system, but my 85 and others I have seen in the junk yards, have had one. But it may be an after market one. mine had a little light with a black plastic piece around it with the name "Clifford". It was install in the wood between the sunroof, antenna etc... switches. It must have been disconnected long before we got the car..

The factory ATA was optional for 85 on the W123.

The sticker price on my 84 CD says Anti Theft Alarm and was a $525 option.

I remember my parents 85 300SD that they purchased new had an alarm that they later had disconnected because it was to sensitive.

Yes.
The alarm was standard equipment on the W126 300SD in 1985.
The ticking noise is the alarm in active mode.

I disconected mine not long after I bought my car. It would got off after every rain storm. Try driving threw town with the horn going crazy and your lights flashing on and off. I live in a small town where everyone knows everyone else. lol

Some time back another aspect of this whole alarm thing was discussed. Namely that most, if not all of the '85 123's that have the alarm, also have the pull cord under the rear seat cushion for manually operating the trunk lid lock. That may give an independent answer to whether or not the alarm is present on any given '85 sedan.

Not only that. The engine bay will have the same door switches, only mounted facing up, to detect if the hood has been opened. These switches will be on the firewall area.

My '84 has it. The alarm went crazy... needless to say it is now unplugged.

FWIW, my 1985 300d doesn't have the stock alarm (but did have an awful aftermarket unit that I pulled out).

And it does not have the emergency trunk release pull.
